The Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging (M4A) works to empower older adults and individuals with disabilities to live with dignity and independence. Through a range of services and advocacy efforts, M4A ensures access to crucial resources such as long-term care support, caregiver assistance, nutrition programs, and health education across central Alabama.
The Holle Family Foundation is proud to support the Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging (M4A) through our LIFT Funds initiative. These funds are designated to assist individuals with urgent needs that promote independence, health, and dignity in community living.
Over the past two year, these funds have helped M4A address emergency situations such as utility disconnections, transportation barriers, medical and prescription costs, minor home repairs, food insecurity, temporary housing, and other critical needs that M4A’s main programs could not address.
From June 2023 through October 2024, M4A was able to quickly assist 68 individuals. Each story behind these numbers reflects resilience, community care, and the vital role these resources play in people’s lives.
Real Stories of Impact
- Emergency Housing for Vulnerable Clients: Two clients were provided housing support. One, a veteran’s widow, was given a week’s stay in an extended-stay hotel. Another, recently widowed and a victim of financial scams, received rent assistance during a difficult transition.
- Medical Transportation: A client facing serious health issues was able to travel for multiple doctor visits and an arterial bypass surgery thanks to LIFT-funded transportation.
- Medication and Oxygen Assistance: 12 individuals who couldn’t afford their medication, and one who needed oxygen support, were able to access lifesaving health resources.
- Heating and Cooling Support: 16 individuals received help staying safe in extreme temperatures. LIFT Funds provided 3 heated blankets, 5 heaters, 4 window A/C units, and 5 fans.
Amanda Glass, M4A’s ADRC Supervisor and Project Manager for the HFF Lift Project, coordinated these efforts with compassion and dedication.
We are honored to partner with M4A and support their mission to uplift individuals and families across Middle Alabama. These stories are a testament to the powerful difference that even modest resources can make when directed with care.
