Mercy Deliverance Ministries (MDM) proudly launched its Mobile Grocery Bus on December 4, 2024, bringing fresh, affordable groceries to underserved neighborhoods in Birmingham. This initiative serves communities classified as food deserts, including unemployed individuals, homeless populations, disabled veterans, and those in Section 8 housing.
The retrofitted bus, equipped with refrigeration, freezers, and custom shelving, provides a dignified shopping experience for residents. Initial stops included locations like Jackson-Olin High School, Peace Missionary Baptist Church, and Dugan Senior Village, with plans to expand statewide as the program grows.
Holle Family Foundation funds supported essential startup costs, including retail sales equipment, shopping supplies, and the initial food stock for the bus. The foundation is proud to have supported this impactful project. A Board Member had the opportunity to tour the bus during its launch, experiencing the impressive final product firsthand.
MDM’s Mobile Grocery Bus is a vital step toward addressing food insecurity and fostering community resilience in Birmingham. Learn more about their mission here: https://www.mercydm.org/
