FeedBHM Food Preservation, Grace Klein Community, Inc. focusing on Birmingham’s societal needs.

The Holle Family Foundation served as the pilot funder for what is now called the “Sustainability Kitchen Initiative,” formerly launched as the FeedBHM Food Preservation Project. Since the grant’s approval in November 2024, Grace Klein Community has expanded internal systems and community outreach to promote preservation methods and food sustainability across the Greater Birmingham Area. The $20,000 grant fueled our foundational efforts, allowing us to build over a dozen internal processes for repacking and transforming rescued food. Many of these processes are designed for replication in home kitchens. Through our Sustainability Kitchen Initiative, staff, interns, and volunteers have preserved 31,277 pounds of food, thus far, in 2025, which would not have been possible without the support of the funding for necessary supplies. Our 2025 preservation goal is to preserve 50,000 pounds of food, which we will exceed.
